Tuesday Travel Tips from Metro

18 01 2009

Metro reminds customers to bring four essentials for Inauguration travels.

It’s a strange list, but the 4 things appear to be:

  1. A Metro card with enough money for your round trip
  2. $4 cash to park at a Metro station if your planning to do so
  3. Pick up a Metro commemorative travel guide
  4. No signs or coolers.

Obama That One Discount Tix Available!

17 01 2009

I’ve gotten this email a few times in the last 24 hours. If you want to hit what sounds like a fun event at 50% off, here are the details:

50% off on all ticket levels, JUST FOR YOU, to make sure you are all there to celebrate history in the making!

Come out and celebrate “Obama: That One!” with me this Sunday, January 18th at Newseum, the world’s most interactive, state-of-the-art news museum and THE HOTTEST VENUE in Washington D.C.  We have put together an incredible evening of entertainment hosted by Broadway’s own Omar Edwards and honoring the Who’s Who and tastemakers of this amazing era – Hill Harper, Beverly Bond, John Rhea, Senator Roland Burris and Kimatni Rawlins.

Once the awards are over, be prepared to party the night away with Beverly Bonds as she takes command of the stage to bring you the hottest music as we celebrate President-elect Obama, the Change Movement and the New Year!  Go to ObamaThatOne.com to purchase tickets – use Coupon Code life4obama and Host Code 41899.  I look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday!

Presidential Donuts!

15 01 2009

Donut lovers will have two ways to celebrate Inauguration Day on Tuesday: a new flavor at Dunkin’ Donuts (multiple DC locations) and an outright freebie at Krispy Kreme (located in Dupont Circle)Dunkin’–which last week launched a $100-million campaign with the theme “You Kin’ Do It”–is offering a new “Stars & Stripes” frosted donut featuring red, white and blue star-shaped sprinkles.

The donut will sell for 89 cents between Saturday and Tuesday.

In Washington, D.C. and other selected markets, customers who buy a medium hot coffee or hot chocolate at participating stores can purchase the special donut for 44 cents, in honor of the 44th president.

Meanwhile, over at Krispy Kreme, the first one’s on the house. Participating Krispy dealers are actually offering one free donut of choice per customer, no purchase required, on Inauguration Day.

Will the freebie gamble pay off in other purchases and some new ongoing customers? Stay tuned for the next quarter’s financials.

Planning to Scalp Your Tickets?

15 01 2009

Today the Senate voted to ban selling tickets to the inaugural swearing in. This bill is expected to pass the House, so if you get caught, you could be in jail instead of on the Mall next Tuesday.

Thank GOD our friends over at The List Are You On It are indeed on it, as usual. They’ve compiled what has to be the ultimate inaugural dining guide, detailing specials and events at restaurants and bars across the region. There are plenty of $44 dinner specials, but some places are pulling out all the stops–I love Proof’s idea to have Alice Smith perform on Saturday for the late night dinner crowd, and plans for extended hours over at Taberna del Alabardero. Deliciousness!

Valet Park Your Bike on Inauguration Day

Excellent idea! If I wasn’t heading to the Mall with family, I would definitely take advantage of this.
